Poe’s THE RAVEN Short Film Project

The Raven
Anytime a filmmaker hits me up about supporting a Poe (inspired) film, I feel obligated to support it. First off, Poe is one of my all time favorite writers, secondly, I was in development on a short film of The Tell-Tale Heart over a decade ago, and the project fell apart due to financing (crowd funding was not around back then).

So when filmmaker Jens Koenig hit me up about pushing his The Raven project along, how could I say no.

Here’s some info, but click on the link at the bottom for more detailed info and to support.

Two lovers. A raven. Death
A young man believes, that he will see his beautiful but lost beloved again some day. And he knows, how to achieve his dream. Were it not for this dark visitor, who mocks his hopes.
Who is this ghastly and grim guest, this prophet of evil…

There is so much more in Edgar Allan Poes poem The Raven than the plain description of a mourning young man and a funny bird. Poe himself indicates in The Philosophy of Composition, that the raven is just a symbol. But a symbol for what? I think, it is the dark side of the young man’s soul. Such a horrible side, that you could take Hannibal Lecter as a friendly man.

Crowdfunding shall help me, to get some money for the setting and to acheive my vision of this story. But, the “purple curtains” alone (200 squaremeters) are pretty expensive. The costume of the seraph (feathers only) might be well over 100 Euro and we need four of them. And so on

THE RAVEN : THE MOVIE will be a short film, with a duration of 10 to 15 minutes. And it will be high octane nightmare fuel.
