Stir Of Echoes

Have any of you seen the Kevin Bacon movie Stir of Echoes? Chances are that you haven’t, because it came out around the same time as the Sixth Sense and was very much overshadowed by it. Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down and watching this movie with my husband. Let me tell you, I’m so glad that I did!

Kevin Bacon stars as a married father who after being hypnotized by his sister-in-law, starts becoming more psychic. Not only that, but he’s seeing horrifying images. While he’s trying to make sense of all this, he starts to realize that his young son is psychic, too. The problem is that he can’t seem to convince those around him, especially his wife.

Kevin Bacon

Now, this movie wasn’t without flaws. There were a couple of characters that we got introduced to and never saw again. A little frustrating. There also seemed to be an intense moment that Bacon’s character was having with his son about his psychic abilities, but again, that went nowhere. Lastly, although I was mostly happy with the ending, it ended in kind of a weird spot.

I have to admit, it’s too bad that this was overshadowed by the monster success that was the Sixth Sense. Bacon was amazing in this film and there were plenty of intense moments. The final climax was satisfying and kept me guessing. There was also a surprise cameo by a very young Jennifer Morrison!

I think that this movie would have done better if it hadn’t been for the timing of it. With that being said, try and look for this movie at your local library or on Netflix. It’s worth a look. Hopefully, more people can give this movie a chance.

In my early twenties, I was an actress in some horror films and I wrote film reviews on a Christian website under the name Sarah Brock. I'm now happy to explore the world of horror once again.
