Written and Directed by Michael Walker and staring Jeff Daniels, “Chasing Sleep”, released in 2000, is a total psychological horror film that really fucks with your mind.
When College Professor, Ed Saxon’s wakes up to find his wife is missing he struggles to find an answer to her disappearance.
With haunting imagery, the movie fucks with your brain scene after scene after scene. You never know if the events taking place are in Ed’s head or actually happening. Just when you think you got things figured out, more questions arise that throws everything out of whack, especially the oversized bloody baby in the bathtub.
Everyone in the film is poppin’ pills, which is a motif in the film. So you don’t know if the shit happening is hallucinations or just plain weird.
This is a gem that you must catch if you haven’t seen it. The entire film takes place in one location giving it a claustrophobic, eerie feeling. Jeff Daniels is just amazing in this flick and it would not have been as good with any other actor.
