CARL LINDBERGH on set Bunnyman Massacre

When I first started out in the entertainment industry, I expected to see a wide range of auditions from many different genres being posted.  While I did see a lot of auditions, almost every single one of them were for horror films.  As time went on, I had several movies on my resume that were horror.  Recently that got me wondering why horror appeals to independent film makers?

Honestly, there could be a million different reasons why, but there are a few that come to mind.  One, is that it’s very creative.  I know that’s a VERY typical thing to say, but there’s so much special effects makeup that go into it.  I remember doing these small films and seeing how much work they would but into making these realistic wounds out of latex.  So, horror is a good way to get creative in a very artsy way.

Another thing is that it’s a very fun script to write.  There’s nothing better than writing a script and having your victim running from a killer.  Horror can go in so many different directions. It can be gory, funny, torture, you name it.  There are so many avenues to explore.

The last thing that I’ll mention is that there’s always an audience for it.  Whether they’re teens, twenty something’s, or regular adults, people love horror and will flock to it in droves.  There are a million different reasons why a person is a fan of horror, but that doesn’t matter.  What matters is that the fans of the genre are very loyal.  The genre isn’t going anywhere and neither are the fans.

Why do you think we’re so drawn to horror all the time and what are some of the reasons you think indie film makers love it so much?

Sarah

In my early twenties, I was an actress in some horror films and I wrote film reviews on a Christian website under the name Sarah Brock. I'm now happy to explore the world of horror once again.
