RAMPAGE: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT continues the story of Bill Williamson, who is now motivated by political hatred. He invades a TV news station in the hopes of airing his views and gaining followers that will join him in his extreme actions to change the current state of our so-called Democracy.

Some would argue that the film is a political thriller. I found it to be more of a psychological horror flick. Sure the views of Bill are politically motivated, but the terror he forces upon his captors is horrifying. What makes this film work so well is this can happen and has happened at different levels all over the world.

Writer / Director Uwe Boll has had his fair share of bad-mouthing from critics, mostly in the horror and video game arenas. However, Uwe Boll is a fantastic filmmaker given the right material. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT is one of his best films. I believe his strength as a filmmaker comes when he is shooting his own material. The films biggest strength is his writing. His well written, heartfelt monologues of Bill are intense and thought-provoking. Credit also has to go to actor Brendan Fletcher for his excellent delivery and enthusiasm in every word he spits out. I have not been this transfixed to an actor in a film since Brad Dourif’s performance in Exorcist 3.

I’m the least political person on the planet, but the film certainly had me thinking about our current affairs and the state of our political leaders. This is what Uwe was trying to do, so it certainly worked for me.

Will horror fans dig the film? Considering I’m one I will say yes. There are a lot of intense, horrifying scenes all placed in a real world atmosphere, there is no monsters, makeup, or ghosts. It’s about a man with weapons who is willing to use them on anyone to get his point across.
