Dave G [Jay Paulson] has just won the prize of a lifetime. He is the sole winner of a good ol’ romping session to a girl he has roping his pony off to for years. Davey seems like a good guy and then we meet him and realize that there is seriously something fucked up in that red head of his.
Call it women’s instinct, but his favorite stripper turned porn star Ashley Saint [Betsy Rue] seems to agree as she immediately turns the skittish young man down, refusing to have any interaction, let alone anything that involves her nether regions. However, both her employer Mike [Don McManus] and the little psycho himself convince her that Davey is your regular kid from the block.
And that’s when shit goes down.
In the beginning of the film you are faced with the doomed words, “Based on True Events.” The saying has been so cliche in movies these days that it is almost unbelievable.
The films opens up to a scene of what appears to be a grisly murder site. The girls are ass up and not in a good way. It appears that there are a series of bodies through out the house covered in blood.
The most horrific aspect of the movie is the fact that we are lured into what appears to be malicious murders in a beautiful home. In the entirety of the film, the viewer is left wondering what could have possibly happened.
Lucky Bastard is a psycho porn thriller that embeds the familiar genre of “loose footage” type of filming with something that the horror genre hasn’t quite come to grasps with. Pornography. Yes, we all know that sex and horror come hand in hand when it comes to coupling. But envisioning Dave G as a top sided, impotent killer that wreaks havoc on the WHOLE entire production team is quite improbable to say the least.
Don’t get me wrong, the characters are amazing and the acting is some of the best I have seen in a “real type” setting. The one-liners were pretty catchy and everybody played their part real well. The ending was quite shocking to me, I enjoyed the twist.
But with all that foreplay, I just didn’t seem to feel the climax.
And that folks makes me very unhappy.
Please probe us with your thoughts on the film.
