GUTTERBALLS (2008): Review…Rape, Penis Slicing, Bowling…What’s Not To Love??

Sex, Gore, Bowling

Some films just leave your jaw dropped open wondering what you just saw. GUTTERBALLS is certainly one of those films.

A throwback to the grindhouse slasher films, Gutterballs, written and directed by Ryan Nicholson, is certainly one of those films. Nicholson does not flinch at subject matter, from sexual explicit scenes, to a hard to watch long gang rape scene, to the fantastic gore, this movie has everything a horror fan would need/want.

The story follows two rival bowling teams, when one night a fight breaks out between the two team, which results in one of the female bowlers getting raped by the rival team. This event begins the carnage of revenge the next night at the bowling ally.

The characters are over-the-top, almost cartoonish in nature which certainly works in the films favor. I must say the gore and practical makeup effects are some of the most creative and fun I’ve seen, literally, since the 1980’s. The killer, known as BBK (Bowling Bag Killer) because they wear a bowling bag over their head, is visually appealing. As ludicrous as this sounds, Nicholson, used the right aesthetics within the costume to make it, well, fucking cool. The kills and weapons used are shaved to a point bowling pins, death by sixty-nine, bowling ball head smashing, death by bowling ball polishing machine, and that’s just a few. This film is insane and nuts!

This is certainly a fun film. If you are in the mood for some over the top gore, sex, and more gore, this is certainly one you can’t miss. We can’t wait for GUTTERBALLS 2: BALLS DEEP which is currently in the making with Nicholson at the helm. Go give them a hand and grab a signed bowling pin while you’re at it!
